Flat Evan

Traveling along with Susan and I, was Flat Evan.  Evan is our "grand-nephew", the grandson of our brother, Dennis.  Evan is in first grade.  His class recently read  Flat Stanley, a story about a boy who becomes flat and is mailed to various places for a variety of adventures.  The children in Evan's class drew flat versions of themselves, and then mailed these flat images to various friends and relatives around the country to have adventures.  This is a country wide phenomena, as several of our guides had seen various versions of Flat Stanley in the past months.  After the first day, we decided that if Flat Evan was to survive with the two crazy aunts, he would have to be laminated!  Here are a few of Flat Evan's adventures:

Montezuma's Castle

Arcosanti

Mystery Castle

Flat Evan with a letter from President Bill Clinton

Desert Botanical Garden

Casa Grande Monument

Flat Evan's hand is inside a cactus boot.  A cactus book is a hole that a bird or other animal make inside a saguaro cactus. The cactus forms a kind of scab.  These hollow areas serve as nests for a variety of animals. Look carefully at the illustration to the left of Flat Evan.

Flat Evan did visit Biosphere 2.  However, Susan took those pictures.
