Day 1: A Day of Architecture

65 miles north of Phoenix, near Cordes Junction, is Arcosanti, an arcology that is being built.

Paolo Solari and Arcosanti

Architect Paolo Solari was born in 1919 in Turin, Italy. He came to Arizona in 1956 to study under Frank Lloyd Wright at Taliesin West.
Soleri coined the term arcology  to describe the concept  of architecture and ecology working as on integral process to produce new urban habitats.  Arcosanti is a compact Urban structure with large greenhouses on 25 acres in a 4,000 acre preserve.
It is hoped that when completed, Arcosanti will be home to 5,000 people.  Currently, 100 people, including children, live and work in Arcosanti. Since 1970, Arcocosanti has held seminars, conferences and workshops in architecture and urban planning.  Arcosanti also holds music events.
For more information on Paolo Solari see http://en,wikipedia.org/wiki/Paolo_Soleri.  For more information on Arcosanti see www.arcosanti.org
Solari designs both ceramic and metal bells, which are sold at Arcosanti.  He has stated he never would have believed that he could fund his projects by making and selling bells.

At the time of this writing, two teenagers and two preschoolers live in Arcosanti with their families
